Glycerin

Glycerin is a humectant, which means it attracts and holds water. In cosmetic formulas it is widely used to keep the surface of the skin hydrated and to help a product feel comfortable rather than tight.

It appears in a very wide range of leave-on and rinse-off products, at many different levels. Where it sits in an ingredient list gives a rough sense of how much is present, but not a precise amount.
